Ranking Every 'This is Fine' Meme by How Fine Things Actually Are
✍️By Prof. Chaos Theory📅December 1, 2024⏱️12 min read

In the interest of scientific advancement and procrastination avoidance, I have undertaken the monumental task of analyzing 847 "This is Fine" memes to determine how fine things actually are in each scenario. 🔥

Methodology

Using the internationally recognized Fineness Scale (which I just invented), I categorized each meme from 1-10, where 1 is "Absolutely Not Fine" and 10 is "Surprisingly Fine Actually."

Category 1: Actually Fine (8-10 on the Fineness Scale)

Sample Size: 23 memes (2.7%)

These rare specimens feature scenarios that are genuinely manageable. Examples include: minor coffee spills, running 5 minutes late, or discovering you're out of milk. The dog's optimism is actually justified here.

Category 2: Moderately Concerning (5-7 on the Fineness Scale)

Sample Size: 156 memes (18.4%)

The classic "work deadline approaching" or "forgot to do laundry" scenarios. Things aren't great, but they're manageable with some effort and possibly caffeine. The dog is being cautiously optimistic.

Category 3: Definitely Not Fine (3-4 on the Fineness Scale)

Sample Size: 445 memes (52.5%)

The bread and butter of "This is Fine" content. Scenarios include: global pandemics, economic collapse, or discovering your favorite TV show got cancelled. The dog is clearly in denial, but we respect the commitment.

Category 4: Apocalyptic Nightmare (1-2 on the Fineness Scale)

Sample Size: 223 memes (26.3%)

These memes feature scenarios like climate change, social media comment sections, or trying to assemble IKEA furniture. The dog has clearly lost touch with reality, but honestly, who can blame him?

Key Findings

1. 78.8% of "This is Fine" scenarios are objectively not fine

2. The dog's optimism is inversely proportional to the actual fineness of the situation

3. The meme works best when things are least fine

4. I may have too much time on my hands

Conclusion

After extensive analysis, I can conclusively state that things are, in fact, rarely fine when someone posts a "This is Fine" meme. However, the dog's unwavering optimism in the face of chaos remains an inspiration to us all.

This research was funded by my inability to focus on actual work and a concerning amount of coffee.

*Sips coffee while everything burns* This is fine.
